ABC’s Hugh Davies
wk 1) ABC - Hugh Davies:i have found this seminar most intriguing so far - the seminar clarified some facts about the ABC being a public broadcasting corp funded by the nation, thus, certain responsibilities need to be attained. Hugh mentions that media attention today is now consumed differently and often content is pre-moderated, therefore the ABC has had to introduce new innovations via the internet, radio, events and in its television programs to compete with commercial channels and to widen their audience. The issue of ‘editorial policy’ was also raised with TV programs, such as ’summer heights’, being televised by the ABC that show ‘inappropriate’ content - especially when the network is directly accountable to parliament and more importantly, the Australian public. Personally, i find that the shows in ABC and SBS (whether they be the news, documentaries and sitcoms) are more entertaining, since they have generally contained thought-provoking content, in comparison to commercial channels - where much of their sitcoms are american-influenced. HOW MANY MORE REALITY TV SHOWS DO WE NEED?However, this is not to say that other channels are totally futile. Footy (go the mighty blues), gossip and Gordon Ramsey are amongst favourites in our household.aina nott
